Botox for men: cost and what to expect
Straight numbers and a straight description of the process — because per-unit pricing and spa-speak make this harder to research than it should be.
The short version on cost
In the US, botulinum toxin is typically priced at $10 to $20 per unit, higher in coastal metros. Men usually need more units than women — male facial muscles, especially the frontalis in the forehead, are simply stronger. A typical male forehead treatment lands between $425 and $575; the frown lines between the brows are often treated together with it. Expect the effect to last three to four months.
Some newer studios price flat per area instead of per unit, which removes the taxi-meter anxiety and is worth seeking out for a first visit.
Why this is not a niche thing anymore
Around six hundred thousand US men get neurotoxin treatments each year, and male usage has grown roughly fourfold since 2000 — the fastest-growing segment in aesthetics. Injectors who see male patients weekly understand male dosing and male aesthetics: keeping the brow line masculine and flat rather than arched, softening rather than erasing.
What a first appointment looks like
- Consult, ten minutes. You point at what bothers you; the injector maps which muscles cause it and quotes units. A good one will tell you if a line will not respond well.
- Injections, ten to fifteen minutes. A handful of small injections per area. No anesthesia needed.
- After. Back to work immediately. No rubbing the area, no heavy training that day. Results appear gradually over three to seven days, fully by two weeks.
How to choose an injector
- Licensed medical professional with toxin experience, not a spa add-on service.
- Ask how much of their practice is male — you want a real number, not a shrug.
- Before-and-after photos of men, not just women.
- Conservative first-visit dosing with a two-week follow-up offer.
Should you do it at all?
Only the deep expression lines justify it — the forehead rows and the 11s. Fine surface lines respond to a proper routine at a fraction of the cost. The rational sequence: run the routine for a quarter, measure, and treat only what provably does not move.

Does it hurt?
It is a series of very small injections with a fine needle — most men describe each as a brief pinch. The whole treatment takes ten to fifteen minutes and there is no downtime beyond avoiding the gym for the rest of the day.
Will I look frozen or done?
Not if it is dosed conservatively by an injector who treats men regularly. The goal for most male patients is softening the deepest lines while keeping normal expression. You can always add units at a follow-up; you cannot subtract them.
How often do I need it?
The effect fades gradually over three to four months. Most men who keep it up book three to four visits a year. If you stop, your lines return to their previous trajectory — not worse.
Botox, Dysport, Xeomin — does the brand matter?
They are all botulinum toxin type A with slightly different formulations and unit scales. Outcomes depend far more on the injector than the brand. Compare per-treatment cost rather than per-unit price across brands.
